Mr. Nguyen from Kansas City MO is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the hygrometer, the incubator, and the boxes in order to hatch and house our baby chicks.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” – Fred Rogers
Within our school, there are 17 classrooms mixed between Early Childhood Special Education and Title I classrooms.
I teach a Title I class with 8 girls and 9 boys, bringing my total to 17 students. My students love hands-on learning and learning through project-based curriculum. The students spend the majority of their time in school during center time, exploring and growing through play-based learning. The students in my classroom come from various past and home lives but while at school, they almost put it all behind and enjoy their times with their peers and their teachers. This is the first educational experience for my students and it will be an enjoyable one.
With these materials, students in my classroom will be able to learn about the life cycle of chickens starting with incubation. Students will assist in setting up the incubator and monitoring the progress of the eggs through scientific documentation. Students will also be involved in many scientific inquiry experiences in order to create the optimal environment for the chicks to live in with the use of the boxes as the house. Not only is this an experience that will develop their scientific observation and thinking skills, but it will allow them to make gains on social and emotional development as we work as a class to care for something important to us.
As my students go on into elementary school, they will be asked to do more task-oriented work but have high expectations placed on them to have process-oriented skills such as scientific thinking developed and used on a daily basis.
With your donation, we will foster my students critical thinking skills to set them up for success in the future.
