My students need colorful alphabet collage materials, and ABC beads to use in the art area to expand their letter knowledge. They also need stamp pads and ABC stamps.
Our preschool classroom is a busy place. Many of my students come to school not knowing what letters are. My goal is to have the students knowing all their letters and writing their names by the end of the year.
My students all qualify for free lunch.
Students are also at risk for academic failure. Many of my students come from single parent homes. Some have one or more family members in jail. Many families have a parent who has not graduated from high school. Our school district saw a high need of children entering Kindergarten unprepared. So our school was created to give those struggling children a chance to enter school with the skills ready to be a learner in our fast paced educational system.
My Project
My students will use the beads and stamps during small group instruction. After the materials have been explored they will be be put out in the writing and art areas. During centers, students can create name bracelets, collages,etc. The play dough and stampers will be used during small group time. Students will explore various letters with the dough and stamps. Students will learn letter identification by exploring with these tools.
These supplies will benefit our classroom since learning through hands on experiences is best for children.
Students will be eager to make bracelets with letters of their name using the letter beads. Making pictures with the collage ABC materials and then hanging them in the room will make students feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. My ultimate goal is empowering students through art and literacy.
