"Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying I will try again tomorrow."

This is my mantra for my students each day. Becoming literate is hard work and takes courage to accomplish.
My students are survivors.
My students are from tough places and dealing with tough situations, but my students love to learn. Each one begins the day eager for the hours that lay ahead. Our school is a mirror image of the families we serve. Our school is filled with loving professionals that have dedicated their lives to creating a lifelong love of learning.
My Project
Students in first grade spend their year learning many new things, with the emphasis on learning to become better readers! Students need access to a variety of books, time to read them and a comfy place to become part of the book. I would like to improve my classroom library so my students have more book titles to choose from. Students need books from all levels, and many choices to stay interested and develop a love of reading.
Students at the beginning of first grade learn how to choose their own books that are just right for them. Students build up to 20 minutes of reading. They learn to think about what they are reading and the different types of books to choose from. Students should be able to find several books that they can read with only a few challenging words per page. They should have access to fiction and non-fiction books on their own individual levels.
The more students feel like reading, the more they will want to read, and then the goal of becoming better readers can be achieved.
With the donations from this project, students will have greater access to books that may not have otherwise been available.
