"People with ADD [ADHD] often have a special 'feel' for life, a way of seeing right into the heart of matters, while others have to reason their way methodically."~Dr. E.M. Hallowell My biggest challenge is to help my students with ADD/ADHD maintain focus to complete their work for other classes.
We have many students with multiple races, numerous religious backgrounds, and socioeconomic status.
There is a high rate of gang activity in our area which trickles into the lives of our students. In the special education department, the majority of the students have moderate to mild disabilities, with the majority of these students being in the general education environment most of the day.
More than half of my students have Other Health Impairments, especially ADD/ADHD. My room is used for testing and a specialized, structured study hall for students with disabilities. Our school is a wonderful place to be with such supportive teachers and administration. We have numerous intervention systems in place for students who are struggling in any aspect of their lives. We live in a small city, but we surely have a small town feel.
My Project
These watches will be so beneficial for our students who struggle to maintain attention to tasks. Many will "zone out" due to their ADD/ADHD. It is hard to help each student who struggles like this when we have so many and in all of their classes, general education and special education. These watches will be able to travel with them and remind them with a discrete vibration to return to their task at hand. This can be used in all classes and with all types of tasks including paper or computer tasks and teacher lessons or lectures. The look of the watch makes it appear to be any ordinary watch which will make our students more likely to wear it since they won't appear different from their peers.
With the discrete reminders, our students will be able to wear a stylish new watch while completing more of their work and focusing more in their educational environment.
This is a product that comes highly recommended from Dr. Laura A. Riffel, an expert in behavioral interventions.
