I am a kindergarten teacher who has opened an after school Lego Club for Kindergarten- 2nd grade students in order to give more children the opportunity to participate in an after school club.
I work at a very large elementary school of about 750 students in Missouri!
While we do have after school clubs, the large population limits how many kids can actually participate in after school activities.
This program will encourage students of all ages to build, create, explore, work collaboratively with friends and be challenged!
My Project
The Lego kits and Idea books will be used in our after school Lego building club. The students will work independently and in groups to complete building challenges each week. Students will be learning to problem-solve, engineering building skills, improve fine-motor skills, build teamwork, practice communication skills, and boost creativity.
We would like to add the challenge of following a set of directions to complete a Lego building task. In order to add this challenge to our club we are in need of a variety of Lego kits for the kids to work with.
The idea books will also be used to help spark creativity and show the kids what is possible with Legos. We hope the kids will take on the challenge of getting a bit more creative with their creations.
These Legos will be used with students from kindergarten to 2nd grade to promote creativity, building, social skills, fine motor skills, communication skills, and success in our Lego club.
Donations of the Legos will give more children the opportunity to participate in an after-school activity.
