Think of picking up your favorite picture book to read alone or to a child. Now, picture that book being one you have written and illustrated! Our goal is to plant a lifelong love of writing and creating by having students make their very own books from start to finish.
We have a fantastic group of kids at our school.
We are a tight knit community and love to partner with the businesses along with other schools. Our students come from very diverse backgrounds and have different needs from student to student. Our staff and students have a love for learning and sharing what they have learned with their families and other grade levels. We are a K-6 building and we try to work with other grade levels to learn a vast amount of curriculum. We also try to do cross-curricular learning whenever possible. We love to display our work not only at our school but across the city.
My Project
As our students progress in their writing process we would like for them to take the process from start, with a rough draft and take it all the way to a "published" book. Our vision is for the students to write their own books and then use their art skills and different mediums to create their book. Students will write the book and then plan out the illustrations and what materials they feel would be the best fit to convey what they are trying to share with the reader. We will be starting by showing a wide variety of texts to inspire and give examples of all the amazing things our future authors and illustrators can create. The students will then go through the entire writing process from pre-writing, revising, editing, and will then start the artistic part of the project by working with the requested blank books along with all the paper, stickers, different kinds of markers, crayons, and pencils to bring their books to life by adding amazing illustrations to share with our class.
This donation would make this project a reality.
Unfortunately often materials for art projects are the last thing we can use our money to purchase for our classrooms. Our students will be able to activate both sides of their brains by using the left side to organize, write, and edit. Then they will have the chance to use the right side of their brain for their creativity for the arts while creating their book as they see it in their minds using a wide variety of materials.
