My goal for this project is to get kids excited about reading! I want to instill a lifelong love for reading by motivating young students to read!
My 22 first graders are busy learners with diverse backgrounds and levels of education.
Many homes do not encourage or value reading, leaving students with the idea that reading is just for school. As a primary educator, motivating kids and instilling positive work ethic in students is a challenge!
Alternative seating options, include Wobble chairs and cushions for students who need assistance focusing on their reading task. The bean bag chairs and pillows will motivate students to not only choose to read during their center time, but allow them to do it comfortably.
My Project
What kind of reader are you? My favorite time to read is in a quiet cozy nook in my home. I want to create a homier classroom environment so students will make positive associations with their reading experience. I believe, in order for first graders to become motivated and lifelong readers, students need to see how enjoyable reading can be.
Research shows that students are motivated by choice.
