Our future is moving rapidly and technology plays a huge role. Most of today's youth are bombarded with it. My students are not. Computer lab is a treat and getting to touch the SMARTboard is special. In this day in age technology should be a given for our kids and sadly it always isn't.
We live in a world where having an edge means being familiar with technology, my students deserve an equal playing field.
We are from the lead belt of Missouri. We live in a low socioeconomic area. Devices are not accessible for many of my special education students. School is the only place they are exposed to many of today's advancements in technology. By adding tablets to our routine we would not only engage our students, but also keep them excited about learning.
My Project
We would use these Kindle Fires daily. Many programs our school already pays for have apps available that could be downloaded. These apps can go back to the basics many of my students are lacking. By making practice fun it can help them advance more rapidly. We can practice Internet searching and safety as well. Some of our students would greatly benefit from interactive practice rather than paper/pencil tasks. Kindles can be a great middle ground between paper/pencil and hands on work.
My student's lives would be changed for the better in more than one way by incorporating Kindles into my instruction.
They would be exposed to the technology they so desperately need to be know about, but also they would make learning fun. Fourth grade is a crucial year, for many students it is when they decide whether they like school or hate it. I don't want any child to feel school is a burden and I strive to make learning as fun as possible. Kindles would be a great addition to my efforts.
