"Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” – Mary Lou Cook
I teach fifth grade reading, writing and social studies in rural Southwest Missouri.
I have a class full of creative and active children who really want to be successful learners. I believe that all children are gifted in some way and should be exposed to many different ways of expressing what they have learned. All children can and want to learn but not all can be successful in the same ways. Maybe some students struggle writing stories in the traditional method, but give them a camera, and they weave a magical tale! I know that Empowering Students Through Art can help them tap into their natural creativity.
My Project
My students need these Lego figures to make short historical stop motion animations. Once I have taught them the principles of stop motion animation, they will be able to collaborate on many animating projects to show what they have learned. Retelling stories, folktales and tall tales, producing a video to show what they have learned in social studies, or animating a historical fiction story they have written are a few of the things my students can do with these figures. I have found that once children have had a successful guided experience making animations, they are eager to make more.
These Lego figures will allow my students to express their imagination and learning in a new and exciting way.
By donating to this project you are helping me bring all my students to higher levels of expression. These materials will increase interest and excitement in all areas of classroom learning.
