This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach First Grade in a low-income, urban setting in St. Louis, Missouri. Our team level goal is to have 80% of our students on or above grade-level by the end of the year, but my lack of technology is the biggest struggle to help my students reach this achievement.
My 23 students come to school ready and eager to learn each morning.
However, the majority of my students are affected by trauma which causes their home duties to outweigh their classroom responsibilities. With my dedicated team, we encourage and motivate our students to become lifelong learners. We set a strong foundation for the importance of education.
My Project
My students will use this Listening Center to increase their fluency, expression, and vocabulary. This addition to our classroom will also continue to build on their love of reading and encourage positive reading behaviors throughout the year in to the future.
This additional outlet will directly impact our students since it will allow them to receive an additional support, other than read alouds, at school to supplement the minimal of exposure to text they may receive at home.
