My Students
"I like to move it, move it!" My students are a very active group of seventh graders that love to move and bounce while they're learning.
My students are seventh graders at a predominantly African American middle school in north St.
Louis, Missouri. Most of my students are just barely at or below their grade level in reading, even though they are striving for so much more. They have been growing by leaps and bounds this school year, and that's due to their thirst for learning. They are excited to learn and determined to succeed, and I want to encourage that excitement in them daily.
My Project
This is part two to one of an earlier project for my classroom of movers. Several students in each of my classes have ADHD, which causes them to struggle to stay still and focused. So, I encourage movement as much as possible and try to give them chances to get their wiggles out every day. One way to accomplish this is through one more Kore Active stool, 6 wobble/balance cushions, and 5 bouncy bands to attach to our chairs. Students could use them during instruction and work time, and get their wiggles out while still working. For a bonus, both the chair and the cushions have been shown to improve posture and balance. Students will learn ways to keep themselves focused and have fun wiggling while they do so.
This project will help my wiggly children stay focused and work out their energy.
We are an active group, and these special items will help us wiggle appropriately. We are ever so grateful to our generous donors who have helped us in the past.
