We Are Crazy About These Books, But We Lack Them At School!
My students need chapter books for our higher students and simple books for our very low readers. Both Weird School and the Elephant & Piggie books are very loved here!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of our students lack books and educational supplies at home, which puts a large damper on their reading progress. We currently do not have enough books in our classroom for each student to take home one book per night, and we definitely do not have their appropriate level. We need a library!
My 2nd grade students attend a Spanish and English dual language school that is unfortunately located in a run-down neighborhood.
The students come from all different types of backgrounds with all kinds of skin colors. The variety and diversity in our school is impressive, and it shows in our students' respect and acceptance for their classmates and greater community. Our school embraces Hispanic culture and encourages diversity. While we are a low-income school, the wonderful and dedicated staff and students allow us to reach a culture of achievement despite the challenges our families face each day. Unfortunately, we lack many resources to help our students continue to succeed. With your help, we can continue to push our students toward higher education and greater opportunities than their parents had. We hope to help our students break the cycle of poverty, gang violence, drug use, and give them every choice in what they want to be when they grow up.
My Project
This project will allow our students the opportunity to explore interesting titles at their reading level. In order to teach a love of learning, we need titles that are exciting and interesting to the students. The books we do have in our classroom library are very loved (torn, tattered and aged), and many of our students raise their hand to tell me their book is missing pages or pages are ripped. New books will engage, excite and allow our students to read on level! Due to the economic disparity in which they were born into and the lack of funding and resources in our district, we need many tools that can help us overcome the achievement gap provoked by socioeconomic status. Many of my second graders also have no books or resources to take home with them to practice with their families. Together we can support my students in reaching opportunities that are limited to them simply due to the zip code in which they were born. Together, we can break the cycle
Our students simply adore these books.
They always are requested incredibly quickly due to their high amusement, level-appropriateness and appeal to our students because we frequently use them as read-alouds. They offer a great span of fun books for both really high readers and our low, English Language learners. These books will help drive our students to have good reading habits and love reading. It is hard to enjoy reading when the books are not engaging and enjoyable. This will fix that!
