My students would LOVE to have a Lego table to work on many different areas. All of my students have been diagnosed with autism and have difficulties in many areas. This table will allow us to work on fine motor skills, social skills, play, and much more!
My classroom consists of 7 students, all who have been diagnosed with autism under the age of 8.
My K-2 students attend a middle poverty level elementary school in Missouri where we have more than 35% of the students eligible for free or reduced cost lunch. Our school district has very high standards for the students that they expect the students to master by the end of Kindergarten. These expectations are only getting tougher with the new national Common Core standards.
My Project
My students will use this Lego table to work on fine motor tasks (pushing, pulling), social skills (taking turns, parallel play, initiating play, taking turns), academic skills (matching colors, patterns) and just being able to be a kid. They love being able to have fun while learning, and everyone loves learning.
We work very hard to mainstream our kiddos into the regular education classroom, one area in social skills.
This table will allow us to work on several different skills including social skills. Every student loves building with blocks and Legos and this will allow us to create fun designs and work on specific skills, as well. We work very hard in my classroom and having a fun, fine motor area will just be what we need in our classroom.
