My classroom is a positive thinking area. I want my fifth graders to feel comfortable taking academic risks and sharing their thoughts and goals related to learning! I work hard preparing my students for their upcoming transition as a middle schooler at a different building location.
My twenty fifth graders are bright, talented, and witty.
They amaze me everyday with their interest in learning and ability to overcome obstacles. Over 60% of our school population participates in the free and reduced meal program. My students come from many different walks of life. I find it challenging and very rewarding to watch a student grasp a new concept and grow as a learner!
My Project
My scientists will welcome the opportunities to interactively witness erosion and weathering with the EcoSTEM Earth kit. A very important learning task our fifth graders need to master is to understand and successfully apply the scientific method in order to help them understand the world around them. This EcoSTEM Earth Kit is packed with inquiry-based experiments that will excite, intrigue, and challenge my students! My fifth graders also need an authentic study of energy. The requested EcoSTEM Energy Kit will provide many opportunities for my students to investigate the various forms of energy. This project ties nicely with our district's emphasis on Project-Based Learning (PBL). Students will construct an innovative salon with a project partner in Africa!
My students will greatly benefit from the hands-on investigative study of science offered from these two Captain Planet Foundation's kits.
We would welcome the opportunities to authentically learn aspects of science and to connect with learning partners across the globe!
