Can you imagine practicing track and field with no actual track? We are from a high-poverty, rural school district with very little resources for sports. It is my hope that the items requested will help build our track equipment inventory.
Our school is very small.
The average graduating class size is roughly 40 students. The practice facility for our track and field team is a gravel track filled with potholes. We have created a makeshift high jump pit, pole vault pit, and long/triple jump pit for our athletes to practice in. It is not ideal, but the students do not complain. They work hard with what they've got, and we typically have several athletes make it to the state competition each year.
My Project
We recently added pole vault and javelin to our track team, and we lack the funding from the school to provide sufficient equipment for our athletes in these events. I have asked for training equipment for both of these events, which will help those athletes improve greatly. Our javelin throwers have outgrown the javelin we currently have. The new javelin will add to our inventory and help our throwers become better. We currently have no storage for our poles, and the storage bag will be great to keep our poles safe when they are not in use.
Sports have been a huge part in my life.
I believe sports teach children respect, hard work, and integrity, and also get them ready for their future careers. Track and field is such a unique sport because there are opportunities for many different types of athletes to become successful. By receiving these items, we will better the student athletes at our school for years to come.
