What are your earliest memories of science class? My memories include making a model solar system, looking at objects in a microscope, and experimenting to see how many times I could fold aluminum foil before it sunk in water. What I don't have memories of, is what I read about in a textbook.
I am a teacher at a small rural Missouri school.
Our school has a high poverty rate, but that does not affect the motivation of our students. Our school has some of the most caring, charismatic, hard-working, and ready-to-learn students you will ever meet.
My Project
I would love to be able to provide our students with Earth and Pollination EcoSTEM kits. These hands-on science kits are just what our students need to make learning about science a real experience instead of words on a page. The energy kit will allow students to not only wire circuits; but design, create, test, and change their own renewable energy prototypes. The pollination kit will allow student to create their own pollinator habitat. WOW! This is something that would never be possible with only a textbook. These kits will provide students with wonderful opportunities for critical thinking, hands-on learning, and real-life applications for science.
I am so excited about this project.
These kits could have a huge impact on our students. These kits could be the spark needed to ignite a lifelong love of science. One of these students may even become a scientist and discover a new energy source. At the very least, these kits will make learning easier and fun for a wonderful group of kids.
