Do you find it difficult to sit still and work? How many times do you get up and move around during the work day? Many students have a need to stand up, stretch, and wiggle while working throughout the day.
I have a classroom full of eager and energetic third graders!
They love reading, questioning, discovering, and exploring. My students are always excited to learn something new and do their best to stay engaged. Focusing is more difficult for some students than others. It is my responsibility to create a learning environment that provides opportunities to help all of my students reach their full potential. Providing stand-up desks will help me do that.
My Project
Providing stand-up tables as a workspace option will help all of my students, especially those who always find it difficult to concentrate while seated. Every day I have students ask me if they can stand to work. They are allowed to do so but sit back down after 10-15 minutes because bending over their short desks is uncomfortable. It is my responsibility to help my students increase their time on task during individual and group work sessions. Giving students a choice of standing or sitting will provide students with another opportunity to have control of their learning. Standing will increase blood flow and keep them alert.
My students will use the stand-up desks with swinging footrests daily.
These unique desks will provide students with the option to stand and work which will increase their time on task, while decreasing the frustration they feel when sitting at traditional classroom tables and desks. Students will be able to move without distracting others and achieve a higher level of success. These stand-up desks will not only aid my students this year, but in the years to come.
