The students in my classes work very hard everyday. They could benefit from a chance to create something that it is not determined by a set of rules.
The students in my school are champions.
They work hard to make sure they do the best they can. Our school is supportive of students, teachers, and the community. We are a small rural community with a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunches. Although the community supports us there are few business in our little town and they are already donating to support many other endeavors in our school. The library is small and dated, but used daily. Every student comes to the library at least once a week and has a chance to get books to read. Students, teachers, staff, and community members work hand in hand to ensure the success of every student in our small town.
My Project
Students have the opportunity to visit the library but are limited to reading books and taking quizzes. Using the materials requested students would be able to create. They will have the opportunity to build designs of their own creation using the blocks and wheels. When finished they can display their work on a wall for all to see. Every student will have a chance to use their hands to create the visions in their minds. In addition they will be given tasks to complete such as building a bridge with the materials. They will learn how to persevere when the answer is not obvious. They will learn not all problems have a right or wrong answer. They will learn how to visualize and create.
This project will make a difference in the experience that students have at the library.
It will no longer just be the place they go to get books. It will be the place they go to create and where it is okay to make mistakes and try again. The place where they can be themselves and express themselves in a way that they often do not get to at school. They will gain experience in a way of thinking that does not follow a textbook. Thinking that can only come from learning through creative play.
