Classroom Bookcases for Little Bookworms

My students need 2 bookcases for our classroom library. They need a safe place to choose books from!

My Students

My students love to read and I have tons of books for them to choose from, but our classroom library is not safe. The students need a safe place to read. The shelves tend to fall off of the brackets and can't be screwed back together anymore. I have tried to repair them for seven years.

Our school has many low income students.

Lots of our students move in and out and several have been in foster care. Many of the students have never traveled more than 45 miles out of our small Midwest town and can't even begin to imagine what the world is like. There used to be two large manufacturing companies in the town, but both have closed. This has left many without jobs. Our school is very old and outdated. The children sit at tables that have been in the schools since the 70's. There has not been any new furniture since I started teaching seven years ago.

My Project

The 2 requested bookcases will be used to put our classroom books on. The students will be able to chose and find books safely and we would not have to worry about losing books out the backs of the shelves. The students won't have to worry about a shelf falling on them or a bookcase tipping over.

The new bookcases would make our classroom tidier and safer.

The students rarely receive new items. When I have asked my students what they would want most for our classroom, many of them said new tables and bookcases. I have been able to provide the students with other new materials but I am not able to afford purchasing new furniture with my personal money.
