"Intelligence is the source of technology. If we can use technology to improve intelligence, that closes the loop and potentially creates a positive feedback cycle." ~Eliezer Yudkowsky
We are a high poverty school in the Midwest.
Our students have behavioral and academic challenges that prevent them from being in the typical regular education setting. We are a self-contained behavior program that focuses on academic and social skills. Our program has students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
My Project
We have 120 Chromebooks for a school of 450 students to share on a scheduled basis. Unfortunately, the Chromebooks are not usually available at the best time for our schedule. Having a class set of Chromebooks will enable students to work on Science4Us and PebbleGo during our school day at a time that works best for us. The kids absolutely love these engaging computer programs. I would like them to be able to experience it several times per week.
Our program currently has 10 iPads, but 17 students. Having an extra set of iPads will enable us to be one to one on iPads as well. Not only will they be able to utilize the Chromebooks and iPads for science and social studies but also reading, writing, and math.
Technology is embedded into daily learning; the more access we have, the better the chance of success for our students.
With technology we need charging stations to keep them ready to go at all times and new headphones to ensure we can hear all of the fun and important information we are seeking.
