We need a gas grill and smoker to teach students how to cook for various school events lead by our Agricultural Education Program and FFA Chapter.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ficken's classroom raised $504

About My Students
My students are very passionate about FFA. They are always thinking of ways to improve their learning and our chapter. They are very eager to learn more skills in and outside the classroom, especially when it involves cooking and eating.
Students developed the idea because we continually have to ask parents or community members to bring in grills and smokers and cook for the students at our events. My students have mentioned several times their interest in how to grill and smoke items for themselves. Two FFA Officers, Samantha and Trace are taking the lead in writing this DonorsChoose.org project.
Students will learn safe food handling and how to grill and smoke different food items. Skills they will continue to use through their adult lives. A grill and smoker are one of the most versatile yet often underused items a family owns simply due to lack of experience on how to utilize their capabilities.
In Their Own Words
A popular saying within the FFA is “when we meet, we eat!” We have many events throughout the year where we will use these items. A grill and smoker would come in handy for activities such as Welcome Back BBQ, Adopt-A-Highway and Bonfire, Spring BBQ, and Chapter Banquet.
Having these items available to our Advisor would also allow her to teach us techniques during class time, as well. We are hoping to add Food Science to our Agricultural Education curriculum. This would hopefully be the start for us to add other food processing items.
This project will make an impact on students' lives because we can learn how to cook meat, and help our Advisor and parents by taking on the workload of cooking at the events. Throughout the years we have had to borrow grills from community members, our Advisor, and our parents. With our growing chapter, it has become a necessity to own a grill and smoker.
