"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow." -John Dewey
When you walk into my room you will see that we are all about hands on learning. Science is taught through projects, math is taught through exploration. The only piece missing is technology!
I am extremely proud to work for the school that I am in, and the students constantly amaze me.
They are always up for challenges and any time we are able to use technology in our building, their engagement goes up ten fold. Working in a school with a high poverty level, school is the only opportunity for some of my kids to use technology. I want all of my students to have every opportunity possible to have access to technology and be able to learn about the world using it. Our district is growing very quickly and while they are working on getting all of the students' needs met, it is a slow process. I am very anxious to get technology into my classroom and into the students' hands as soon as possible.
My Project
My goal is to reach a point where I have technology accessible to each and every student throughout the school day. Technology is moving from a resource in the classroom to a interactive tool across all curriculum. Our reader's and writer's workshop time is compiled of research, drafting, design and publishing. Our math curriculum is supported through an online interactive textbook that allows additional practice and support. Our science is 100% project based learning. Students are able to explore scientific concepts and work through experimentation keeping them entirely hands on throughout. I have gone through many hours of personal development and training on ways to utilize technology in my classroom. The most recent being all of amazing uses of Google. I want to use Google classroom with my students! The only obstacle standing between full implementation is having the devices on hand and ready at all times. The chromebooks will aid in all of this.
Children today embrace technology in all aspects of life, and the classroom should not be excluded.
The students are eager to allow technology to be part of their education. We just have to provide them with the opportunity! Thank you for allowing me the to be able to provide the technology needed in my classroom for my students.
