My classroom is filled with big thinkers! If you walk into my room, you will find students collaborating, thinking creatively and problem solving. They ask hard questions, search for good answers and debate the results.
They have a creative bend that constantly amaze the adults around them.
Our school is nestled among rolling hills and fields.
It serves a rural area covering 73 square miles. Since there is no town, the school is the hub of the community.
About a year ago, a community photography group volunteered their time to teach us photography basics and invited us to participate in a local photography competition. The art of photography was discovered! WOW!! We have some talent! We have continued to work with the photography group to learn more about photography and how it shapes our world.
My Project
My students need 4 Nikon Coolpix digital cameras that will help them develop their photography skills. They also need memory cards to go with each camera. We would like to continue adding cameras and other photography equipment to our classroom to help us expand our photography skills.
The gifted students have taught photography basics to other students in our school and are sponsoring a school-wide photography competition in March. We plan on offering our services to our school and community as the need arises.
Through photography, several of my students found a creative outlet that they had been searching for.
Photography makes you stop and look at something in many different ways. It takes patience. It allows a person to tell a story more powerful than words. These are skills that will make a richer, more fruitful life for my students.
