My students LOVE sitting back, getting cozy, and reading a great novel! They appreciate the magic they feel when they can relax and enjoy their favorite book, but they lack a designated reading area to do this!
My second grade students are fun, caring, outgoing, and creative students!
They come from diverse backgrounds from all around the world. My students love exploring new activities, learning how to work together, and building social and academic skills. They work diligently every day at our public, low socioeconomic school in Missouri. They are grateful, eager, and excited to have this opportunity get our project funded!
My Project
My students will use the bookshelves to house our classroom library. We currently have 36 bins of books and an entire collection of chapter books. Our bins of books are as organized as we can get them without the proper shelving required. We are looking forward to having all of our books organized, labeled, and shelved! My students will use the desk while they are in the reading area to complete book reviews and book reports. They will also be able to store their personal reading bags inside the desk shelving area. The desk and shelves will be set up so that the area is partitioned from the rest of the classroom. This will create a quiet and private reading area for the kids to sit back and enjoy their favorite book!
This project will positively impact my students in a variety of ways.
Most of my students come from small crowded homes that have no special work area for the kids. They struggle to find a quiet place where they can read at home. At school, my kids read at their desks or on the floor, but sometimes the class can be noisy during reading time. It would be amazing to have a private, designated space where students can focus and feel comfortable reading new and exciting books in class.
