My Students
My students LOVE technology! Unfortunately, at the middle school level we tend to lack as much as we truly need. My sixth graders would embrace the use of more technology available in our classroom.
My students are a great community of learners!
I have two groups of students that I teach English Language Arts and Social Studies to daily. They come from various backgrounds, including academic abilities, cultures, home languages, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Something that they have in common, however, are that they are eager to learn and are curious about the world. Unfortunately, many of my students don't get to even leave the immediate area. They need as many opportunities as possible to access the world around them and gain as many skills as they can.
My Project
The amount of technology we have (laptops) is slim. My team of four teachers have 15 laptops (not all that work at one given time) to share. This means, it is rare that we can truly integrate the use of the Internet into our lessons. The students could use these tablets for so many things! We could use for both Language Arts and Social Studies. They could use for practice in centers, research for either subject, webquests, and even access maps and virtual field trips in Social Studies! The possibilities are endless!
This could change my student's lives in several ways!
First, they would be motivated to use the tablets in different subject areas. They would be able to learn more about topics they are interested in. They would be able to practice skills that are specific to their needs. I would integrate them into centers, have them use for research, and allow them to use for reading e-books, and much more. The tablets would be integrated into their daily classroom lives.
