My first grade classroom is always full of energy, learning, and noise! The students work hard each day to reach their goals but some extra learning tools would greatly help.
I teach 24 lively first grade students at a Title I school in Springfield, Missouri.
Our elementary school is the largest in the district and serves the highest number of students on free/reduced lunch. The school is a positive environment for both students and staff. We work together to create a school family and strive to reach our goals throughout the year! My students never give up on themselves and their hardworking spirit makes me wish I could provide them with the materials they need to reach their full potential.
My Project
We have several computers and one iPad in the classroom to learn with but we do not have headphones that last. Without headphones, the already lively room is filled with extra noise from the computer and it makes it hard for all the students to focus. We need quality headphones to accompany the technology in our classroom. Another piece of technology that we need is a cd player for my students to use during our reading time. The students love to listen to books on cd which helps teach them fluency and word recognition but this cannot be done without a tool to listen on.
The hands-on tools I am requesting will also be used during our small group reading time in the classroom. The magnetic dry erase easel will be a great teaching tool for me to use while the students are learning sight words and reading strategies. The mini magnetic dry erase boards will be used by the students to write sight words and use magnetic letters to spell sight words.
My students are 21st century learners who need technology and hands on tools to learn.
These materials will help my students focus and allow the students to learn in a new way. All of these materials are intended to better their reading skills which will open so many doors for them. What they learn now will impact the their future in this world. These materials will help make a positive impact!
