My Students
Do you remember in school when you would have to sit down all day long from class to class? Wouldn't it have been nice to have a classroom where there was an option for standing up while working? You can help my math students today by supporting us in getting a stand up desk for our classroom.
My students are mostly from a low income environment.
These students face a lot of hard challenges in their home life and find safety in the walls of our school. They struggle with some of the basic concepts of math and we spend a lot of time with spiral review from previous math classes. A safe environment helps and we have that but a comfortable environment and one conducive to learning for all students and their preferences would be ideal.
My Project
Many of my students are content in the classroom with traditional seating but there are several who I let stand up during the lesson because they are tired of sitting all day or just plain sleepy. The challenge for these students comes when it is time to interact with assignments. All of our desks are traditional and these students need to either bend over to use them or sit down and use them. One is awkward for other students and the other puts these students in a lethargic state.
These students are excited about life and friends and find the school environment a safe place to be.
I would love to make my class a comfortable place as well. If I can accommodate a few students I know it will impact their learning for the better with increase attention. Not all students were made to sit in a desk all day long, in fact most aren't. We are just asking for your help in getting two desks for our children to stand at.
