My students need materials to hold books in our library as well as good mentor text to teach reading and grammar skills, and word work manipulatives to spell words.
"If you are going to get any where in life you have to read a lot of books." -Roald Dahl
Every week my students get to check out books in my classroom library and they get so excited to do this. Having an easy way for them to look at books will allow them to book shop quickly and effectively.
Over half of my class is enrolled in our free and reduced price lunch program.
I also have a large minority group in my classroom. In our school, we have 18 regular education classroom ranging from grade 1-4 and 2 SPED classrooms. We are located in a rural community.
My Project
The library bins will be a great help in our classroom library to help organize my library books by different genres. After they are organized my students can quickly find books that interest them and this will allow them to spend less time looking for books and more time reading them. The book boxes will provide each student with a place to store their book when they are not reading them. These book boxes will help keep library materials well taken care of and students will be able to find books that they picked out quickly. The books/ mentor text will help me teach reading and grammar lessons to the students. The stories that are provided in our reading books do not always pique interest in the students and I think that new stories will allow them to pay better attention to the lessons and provide a better understanding for reading lessons. My students will use the magnetic letters to practice making words that they are learning about.
This project's donations will improve how our classroom functions it will provide a streamline process for checking out books.
The colorful book boxes will be inviting. The hard plastic book boxes will provide stability compared to the cardboard ones they are using currently. Providing my students with excellent literature is something that would not be found at home. Getting them interested in reading will help provide them with a life long desire for reading.
