My students need iPads to be used for interactive assessment throughout the year. It is a fun and hands-on way to assess and provide practice in needed areas!
It's a technology-driven world and all my kindergarten students can use it better than I can! They have grown up on iPads and computers. They love to use technology to learn! These iPads for our classrooms will be used for student assessment, enrichment and remediation.
Our elementary is a neighborhood school in St.
Charles County, west of Saint Louis. We are a student-centered, inviting school and are lucky to have the support of parents and community. We are always striving to teach our children using the best tools available. The students in my kindergarten class are sweet, funny, smart, creative and caring. They make me laugh and smile each day. My kindergarten students love school, and I try to do all I can to keep them engaged and become life-long learners and lovers of school!
My Project
Kindergarten is unique in that a lot of the assessments we do require one-on-one attention. I am constantly assessing our students on letters, sounds, rhyming words, sight words, numbers, counting and shapes.
The husband of a kindergarten teacher in our district created an app for the iPad that can be used for individual assessment. With the iPads I am requesting, my kindergarten students will be able to be interactive in showing what they know. The program keeps track of each child's progress, and a printout can be sent home to show the percentage of growth that has been made. When a child masters an area of assessment, firework graphics and sounds are triggered. They love this, and are so proud! Finally, the app creates practice games specifically designed for each student's area of need.
Both my students and I will be enhanced by having iPads in our classroom.
Assessments can be scary at first (and sometimes boring), and the iPads can help make it something fun, interactive and more meaningful to my students. Students will look forward to using them to show what they know, be proud of their success and more willing to practice the skills that need remediation. In addition, other apps can be used for practice and enrichment. Thank you.
