We are a very active hands on group that likes to learn by using different reading materials. They all would like to be at the start of the third grade level by May. They do not have enough materials to practice with to help us get to this goal. Once you learn to read you will be forever free.
I have a very active group that like to see it and touch it to be able to progress in their learning.
They get along great and like to be involved in group or partner work. This year these kids love to read and want to learn how to get better and faster at it.
These journals for reading and writing will help us prepare for our future by becoming more of an equal to other peers in other districts that have better resources than we do.
Our school is very poor and our community does not have any businesses to help provide the staff and teachers what they need to learn. Parents are not able to aide us in the learning that some districts have.
My Project
My students will be doing these journals, fluency cards with and without timers, and higher order thinking cards during centers, in small groups, partners, and individually.
They will be able to be on the floor or tables. Students will be able to time each other with the individual timers and monitor the reading progress by looking at the fluency chart to see how many words they are reading.
The journals students can use for morning work, center work, or whole group activities. Students need to see models of correct work and work that other students do to see how they can help them or do better in their own work. Too many at home projects are on the computer or television and do not allow students to use their hands to practice writing. Hopefully the journals can do this.
Reading different passages helps encourage reading outside of the classroom. This will help them become better readers for third grade.
This will help them a lot because all of the passages that I have are just photo copied and do not last very long.
Students cannot write on them and use them over and over. The different types of reading materials I am requesting can help students at all levels. This in turn will help build confidence in their reading ability.
Students can look at and help "grade" each other on their writing, rate of words they are reading and be a role model for each other.
