Could you image how frustrated you would be if people did not understand something you were saying, because you had poor articulation skills? This is reality for many of my students.
What if a simple tablet could help improve those skills, and allow you to be able to communicate better? It can!
Most of my students come from low income families.
They all have IEPs and are in special education for speech or language therapy. Some students receive both speech and language therapy, as well as varies other special education services. Currently, I students work on varies task to meet their IEP goals in workstations by practicing skills they have already worked on with me . I also work with one student at a time to monitor their progress and give any additional help needed to master IEP goals. I also have a group of students that participate in “5 Minute Speech therapy.” I go to their classrooms everyday and do a quick speech therapy drill with them for 5 minutes to ensure conversation skills carryover into all school settings.
My Project
Students can use the tablets to practice their goals using speech apps during therapy sessions. Most of these apps have built in progress monitoring and tracking systems. The app also will allow me to send the daily progress to parents, the regular education teacher, and cooperating SLP. Students will be able to see when they are close to making their goals. Most apps can be individualized based on each student’s level of learning and needs. Most apps can be individualized based on each student’s level of learning and needs.
These tablets will help keep students engaged in their own learning.
They will take more ownership in their own goals and begin to develop an understanding of how they can better achieve their individual goals faster. Students will strive to work harder and do better using the technology the tablets feature. The tablets will also keep students on task.
