Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in an extremely impoverished district and community, where the students lack a lot of resources including food, clothing, and shelter. I teach special education K-6th grade in a resource room setting, to students who deserve way more than what they're able to access.

My students are incredible kids, despite the challenges that they face.

My school is 100% free and reduced price lunch, and I have students who are homeless and who face unimaginable challenges. I teach in a district which has experienced a lot of turmoil in the media and community, and a lot of poverty and violence in the where my students live. I see in my students a true desire to learn, and to give it their all despite the odds they are facing. Some of my students read five grade levels below where they should be, and perform at a significantly lower math level. Though I teach sixth graders, not one of my students reads above a 2nd grade level. This is commensurate with the district performance. We have students who truly struggle with literacy. MobyMax has enabled them to track their progress and to independently learn, which has really empowered to them to take responsibility for their learning. It is a program that is beginning to close the gaps!

My Project

Should my classroom receive these tablets, headphones and cases my students will have taken another step towards bridging the gap between their instructional level and their grade level. My classroom is only allotted 3 computers, yet I service over 28 students daily. There are not enough technological resources to address the needs of my students. By having these four additional tablets, my students will be able to access this program which is proven to increase testing scores and performance scores in areas where my students have demonstrated needs; namely reading and math. The tablets will be utilized daily for this program, as well as enable my students to utilize the google classroom and other technology which their classroom teachers and their resource room teacher (myself) use. All of these things will immensely increase their ability to progress, and my students deserve all of the access to technology that they can get.

This donation will increase my students' access to technology, and help them access a program that has been proven to increase reading and math scores.

I teach students k-6th, none of whom read above a 2nd grade level. These students truly deserve more technology than the three computers we have. I hope the able to provide these tablets to my students to fit their unique needs. By donating and helping me fund this program, you are showing these students that their learning matters!
