My Students
"Movement is the song of the body."-Vanda Scaravelli, yoga instructor
Over the years, many scientific studies have shown that students tend to lose focus if they sit too long performing any task. In our class, we frequently change up our groups, seating and take brain breaks!
Our class is comprised of 26 energetic, diverse 2nd graders who attend a Title I school in Missouri.
We have students who come from various socio-economic backgrounds, have varied needs and learning styles, and some who are also English Language Learners.
We are focused on project-based learning this year, which includes collaboration, inquiry-based research, and presenting their findings to the public. With that, the students have enjoyed the flexibility to work in different spaces around the room, wherever they are comfortable.
My Project
Students will be able to use the Wobble Chairs in any part of the room. The ottoman stools will give them more comfortable seating at our technology station.
Students could use the stools to work with partners during Writers Workshop or among their partners while working on their PBL projects.
These seating options in our classroom would make a major difference!
At our age, we are very energetic and tend to get up and move around if sitting in one place for too long.
These options would allow us to have softer seating options/movement without distracting other students.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
More than half of students from low‑income households
