Our preschool day is filled with stories, songs, projects and play. We provide our little ones with the opportunity to build, create, imagine and explore.
Our early childhood program is a combination of students with IEPs and regular education students identified as needing early intervention.
My class currently serves 23 students ranging in ages from three to five. 14 students are currently on IEPs. Diagnoses consist of Autism, Young Child with a Developmental Delay or Speech Impairment.
My students gain social, language and academic skills to help them succeed in kindergarten. They typically make tremendous progress during their time in preschool.
My Project
Our current easel is used everyday by young artists for painting, drawing or writing. However, it is held together with tape and superglue. The new easel would provide more space for students to work with storage shelves underneath. A drying rack would provide us a safe place for projects to dry and save shelf space for toys or projects.
Any occupational therapist will tell you the importance of using a vertical surface to help children gain arm strength, learn proper writing grips and teach correct letter formation.
For me, watching a child use a variety of art materials to create a masterpiece he can share with others, illustrates what childhood is all about.
