We have a variety of students in my class, and thus we have a variety of learning styles and needs. My class focuses on the individual. Most of my students have extra sensory needs and the inability to sit still. They may want to focus, however they need to be able to wiggle.
Every day my students struggle with disabilities that hinder them from learning like their peers.
In my class we accommodate their needs in a variety of ways. We focus on their unique learning styles and making sure that they learn as much as possible for the day. Sometimes this is academic and sometimes this is behavioral.
My Project
In order for my students to learn, their bodies and minds must be ready for learning. Often their disabilities and the restraints of regular seating hinder their ability to learn the concept, even if they are trying to keep in control.
We need a Hokki Stool and bean bag chairs for alternate seating that allows them to focus on their work. My students will use these options for seating to fulfill their basic needs. They will be able to wiggle while learning, or they will be able to fully relax their bodies. This allows their brain to stop focusing on their discomfort or need to move and allow them to acquire the concept that is being presented to them.
Having these alternative seating situations will vastly improve my students ability to learn.
They need the extra support of added comfort or to easily and safely wiggle in their chair. Often these things are overlooked for regular education students and they can cope with it. However, for my students they cannot cope and they lose valuable learning time. Having this alternate seating will maximize my students' learning potential.
