My students need 48 new books to supplement our study of fairy tales, myths, and legends. I have selected several books from each genre to add to our classroom library.
“Honey is sweet and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee that made that sweet honey, you have to chase it through the pages of a book.", (Patricia Polocco). I believe one of the very best ways to interest my students is by providing them with a variety of books to capture their many interests.
I have a lively bunch of creative, talented third-graders.
Everyday, I am blown away by their deep levels of thinking and understanding. I believe that they, in fact, teach me more than I could ever teach them. Our school is a school of diverse students from every walk of life. Not much is more inspiring than seeing them devour books, and continue to ask for more. I believe reading is such a gateway to greatness, that developing that love of reading is a central theme in my classroom.
My Project
I envision using these books to supplement our final genre study of the year: Fairy tales, myths, and legends. I have selected traditional fairy tales, as well as many fractured fairy tales. These types of books are so engaging. This is one of my favorite units of the year, because the kids cannot get enough of these books, and seem to devour them!
I want to provide students with as many books as possible to ignite the fire within, and stoke their love of reading.
The best way for students to become good readers is to provide quality literature, and my project is aimed at doing just that. Making 48 more genre specific texts available, will greatly enrich our reading experience!
