My students need littleBits to explore circuits. We need a Sphero robot to explore coding. Legos will allow us to use creativity to plan and build structures.
All day my students sit in their classrooms, where they are told what they have to learn. My mission is to give them a voice and empower them to take control of their learning. I am creating a Makerspace so they will be able to explore and create freely.
I am a library media specialist that serves students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
I serve as librarian and the computer lab teacher. A lot of our students come from low income households. We have a beautiful school that was built a few years ago. We are lucky to have ample amount of space to be able to provide a Makerspace for a unique learning experience.
My Project
My students will be exploring electrical circuits and how they work with the Little Bits. We will use the Sphero robot to further our knowledge of computer coding. The legos will be used to design and construct structures that go along with projects that students will work on.
My students will learn important life lessons by having the chance to be creative.
They will learn to be better problem solvers, by making mistakes and finding ways to correct them. They will also work collaboratively on projects with their peers. Students learning to work with others is a skill that is necessary in our world today. The real life experiences that the students have in the Makerspace will be very valuable to their education.
