This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Imagine waking up one morning and everything that you once took for granted is no longer a given. That is a reality for many of the families in the St. Louis area. A part of preschool is teaching empathy and igniting an interest in students to help work toward bettering humanity.
My students are some of the most amazing and socially involved children.
They are full of enthusiasm and creativity. It was only logical for me to use artists to teach social awareness and empathy lessons. One of their favorite artists is Jean-Michel Basquiat. We learn about his upbringing and some of the challenges he faced while doing his art. We tie in many of our artists back stories with our social development lessons.
My Project
My students need totes, fine writers marker, convenience kits, and other hygienic products. My class has already done an international humanities project where they donated school supplies to their Ghanaian pen pals. They would like to do one for the people in their community as well. Students will use the material granted to create original works of art onto a reusable tote bag. The bags will be filled with hygienic products and other non-perishable items collected by our class. The totes will then be donated to an organization that feeds and clothes homeless families in St. Louis.
Your generous donation would give my students the opportunity to foster their creativity, while teaching them empathy for those less fortunate.
By donating to this project you are EMPOWERING STUDENTS THROUGH ART and teaching them that they can make a positive difference in humanity.
