It's the Little Things that Make the Biggest Difference
My students need rechargeable batteries and iPad stands to use with our iPad minis. My students also need headphones in order to listen to things on their iPads.
My students are often directing their learning. I engage them and tell them the basics. Then it's my goal for them to discover on their own. Making mistakes will only make the success that much more powerful! "Making mistakes does not mean you're a failure. It means you're trying and learning in life."
My 2nd graders are eager to learn.
Most days they come in ready to go and are off to the races to get things accomplished. These 2nd graders come from many different homes, but can count on receiving love and support from their families and from me. My school is 7 years old and beginning the Leader in Me training. Our goal is to develop leaders that will control their own lives and will be actively involved in making their life, as well as other's lives, better.
My Project
My students are 1-1 with iPads. This is the first year for this and it has been awesomely frustrating. With that I mean iPads are a wonderful piece of technology for our students to use when they work well. When they don't work, it's hard to get the student to understand there is an alternative to the technology they use on a daily basis. The things I am requesting will ensure that each student can use the sound on their iPads for each app. Our students were asked to bring earbuds and many of them did, but they didn't fit and hurt their ears or broke. Some kids couldn't afford them and therefore had to use ones I had that they weren't able to plug in on their own. I am also requesting batteries and stands for our iPads. We were blessed with wireless keyboards but to keep using them they need batteries. Stands will make our iPads more effective as students prop up their iPads while typing on them. These little things will make our world go around much simpler.
The donation of headphones will alleviate stress due to not having money to buy them, forgetting them at home, breaking, or them hurting tiny ears.
Having a class set would ensure that the powerful apps that our students have available to them, will be used how they are intended, with the sound. The batteries and iPad stands will allow my students to continue using the wireless keyboards to write stories with their iPads propped properly, instead of propping it up with a water bottle or stack of books.
