My Students
Just because you're not a science teacher doesn't mean you can't be a mad scientist! In my history classroom we hypothesize, experiment, create, innovate, build, deconstruct, and learn not only the what of American History, but the how as well.
My students are largely from low-income families.
We have a significant free and reduced lunch rate and, because we are about an hour from a major city, we have many transient students or students that are here because they found trouble in the city or they weren't wanted. We've got a great staff with big hearts that want to help give these kids a proper education and are willing to try new ways of teaching to accomplish that goal.
My Project
Although we often take for granted the amount of technology available to American children, many of our low-income students do not have much access to 21st century tools outside of the school building. By offering our new History Lab course, we will be able to combine the core subject area of history with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the applied sciences. Students will use these Makey Makey kits to do things like learning about the Industrial Revolution through the inventions that changed society while making their own 21st century inventions.
By donating to this project, you are helping bring the 21st century into core disciplines like history, putting technology into the hands of kids who don't often get to "play" with these kinds 21st century tools, and helping spark creativity.
More than half of students from low‑income households
