Mrs. Smith from Ferguson MO is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need mentor texts for Reader's and Writer's Workshop and boxes to store their own books that they use for "read to self" time.

"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all." ~ Jackie Kennedy.
My students are eager, energetic and excited 5 and 6 year old boys and girls.
They love school, love learning, and LOVE to write! Our day is filled with reading readiness, literature, writing, math and growing into strong, confident scholars. Our school is located in a lower social-economic area. 100% of our student body receive free breakfast, lunch and snacks. Most of my students come to school without the luxuries of children in more affluent areas. Despite this, they show up everyday with smiling faces, a sparkle in their eyes and a desire to learn.
The materials requested through this project are critical to a successful Reader's and Writer's Workshop. The read aloud books will be used as mentor text for my students in which I will teach a mini-lesson around key reading and writing strategies that we are learning in class. These strategies are designed to help my students become stronger in their reading and writing skills. The book boxes will be used for a place for my students to store the individual books they are practicing reading at their own independent reading level.
This project will impact my students by providing them with resources that will be used to help improve their reading skills.
In order for my students to become good readers, they need a good sense of story. The books requested in this project will be read aloud to my students often so that they can learn about characters, settings, conflict resolution, and how to discuss the stories with each other.
