My Students
"The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it." -Peter Pan Art is much the same way. In my classroom I encourage all students to be artists and help guide them along their artistic journey. Books can be an important source of inspiration at a young age.
I have all the K-2 students in our town.
This means around 600 students are coming to my classroom for art each week. We are a Choice-Based Art classroom. The students are the artists and our classroom is their studio. We discuss and try a variety of art making processes. My students are learning independence and choice-making, as well as, art.
My Project
By linking books and art I hope to reinforce the importance of both in a child's life. It is hard at an early age to separate art and literacy, as it is integral part of visual storytelling. I am asking for books such as A is for Art Museum, The Black Book of Colors, and You Are My Work of Art. These requested books will be used by students in my classrooms reading area, as a way to inspire creativity through the written word.
As my budget is limited I can only afford to spend it on the necessary art supplies for the year.
We currently have a small reading area in our classroom. But the addition of these books would help our collection grow and diversify; helping readers of all levels and interests.
