My students need 2 iPads to help them improve their scientific inquiry and research skills through the use of stop motion animation in the class. This is all STEM related.
I teach students that have a love for scientific research and experiments. My students come to school eager to learn. We do a lot of hands-on activities and experiments. My students also love learning by creating songs that connect to the skill they are learning.
I teach in a school where poverty is a huge factor.
My students are 75% free and reduced price lunch. It is very important to connect my students to unique and exciting Scientific learning experiences. My class is very diverse, academically and culturally. I teach students that are new to the country and speak little to no English, students that are gifted learners, and students that have various kinds of educational disabilities, and every thing in between. I love my class because their interactions with one another represent what the rest of the world should be like. They enjoy working and playing with one another and learning about each other's culture and diverse needs.
My Project
My students will use the iPads to create stop motion animation videos. Students will work in collaborative groups to animate videos that connect their learning to scientific research and experiments that they have completed in class. Students will be able to produce, direct and share their own videos. This is an engaging experience that will help the students learn by doing.
This project is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related project.
I work with underprivileged youth. It is very important to connect my students with STEM related experiences very early in life, so that they know that these opportunities are open and exist for them. They are learning at a young age that they are good at STEM and they are excited about it. This gears their minds up to think about their future and the careers that await them!
