My Students
“My aim is to put down on paper what I see and what I feel in the best and simplest way.” – Ernest Hemingway.
During our Writer's Workshop time everyday, we are learning to put to paper what we do, how we feel, and our ideas. My students are learning to connect the spoken word to the written word.
My students are eager, energetic and excited 5 and 6 year old boys and girls.
They love school, love learning, and LOVE to write! Our day is filled with reading readiness, literature, writing, math and growing into strong, confident scholars.
Our school is located in a lower social-economic area.
100% of our student body receive free breakfast, lunch and snacks. Most of my students come to school without the luxuries of children in more affluent areas. Despite this, they show up everyday with smiling faces, a sparkle in their eyes and a desire to learn.
My Project
My students will use these materials requested during Writer's Workshop to sharpen not only their pencils, but their writing skills as well. The chart paper will be used to create classroom anchor charts for the students to use as a resource, the paper will give the students a chance to write daily on a variety of topics and the pencil sharpener will be used to ready pencils ahead of time so that my students will always have a sharpened pencil in hand. This way they will not have to stop their creative flow by getting up to sharpen a pencil on our old and outdated classroom sharpener. No matter where they are in their writing development from drawing picture stories, to stringing letters to writing sentences, my boys and girls will practice daily with these requested supplies to improve as writers.
This project will make an impact on my students, as it will provide them with the necessary tools they need to work on and improve their writing skills.
My families are not always financially able to provide school supplies for their children, this however, should not prevent my students from having the necessary resources for school success.
