Children need to move. These days there is so much information to share with students that the first thing to leave the class is movement. I hope to allow students to learn and move simultaneously. I believe students will learn better and these chairs will allow my students to be more comfortable allowing more thinking to occur.
I currently teach in a Title I School and poverty is an issue.
Fifth Grade tends to be the grade level in which ability levels start to become highlighted. As a team, we are looking at creative ways to incorporate flexible learning in order to make sure that students that need movement are allowed that movement.
My students love to go and read around the room, but just a piece of carpet or tiled floor is not enough. They have creative minds that need space to work. A lot of my beanbag chairs have deflated and there is not a lot of options for them to work. The movable seating is the first step.
We hope to build a path that we can share with others in order to make education more personalized and amazing!
My Project
My students will be given the option to choose the seating that benefits their learning style so that every lesson taught they are comfortable. Students that choose to use this alternative flexible seating will be able to incorporate movement into their daily routine. They can bounce and wiggle while they work. In previous years, many kids were told to stop moving and their chairs have been taken away. Our students today are those with different learning abilities, impulsive actions, and kids that just want to move all day long without negative repercussions. Therefore, these chairs will help them read and focus.
If you help fund our project you are helping to fund our passion and desire to change education.
You will help change education so it is more meaningful and comfortable for all students. Our students will be setting an example for others as they will be able to manage their wiggles appropriately while doing amazing learning and discovery.
