Getting Smarter Together In Physical Science With STEM Tasks
My students need the force and motion kits, simple machines kits and physical science explorations kit to help enhance our science units while offering hands on learning.
Students learn best when they are involved in their learning. Students love hands on opportunities and science provides many students a place to explore and succeed. Many students who do not like to read or write, love science! This project provides my students with hands on lab experiences.
My fourth grade classroom is a diverse community of learners of varying academic abilities.
Some of my students are part of the voluntary transfer program which allows inner city students to become part of our classroom community. Our school has approximately 48% free or reduced price lunch students, but that does not effect what happens in my classroom. I have a group of students who are excited about learning and love to read, write and absolutely go crazy when I say we are going to the science lab. I am thrilled that the students work well in groups and are inquisitive when it to learning.
My Project
The science resources that I am requesting for my class will provide my classroom of learners the opportunity to do hands-on labs in our science lab. My students need the force and motion kits, simple machines kits and physical science explorations kit to help enhance our science units while offering hands on learning. I am lucky to have a science lab in our school, but due to funding, many of my experiments are pretty simplistic, using simple materials, like baking soda, crayons, vinegar, raisins etc. The kits that I am requesting would allow groups of students to use their creativity and curiosity to explore the concepts of force and motion. Many students do not know what to expect and all of these experiences will help them to internalize their learning.
I feel strongly that students who are a part of their learning remember more and seem to question more. The lab experience also provides my students with the opportunity to work together cooperatively while valuing others opinions, a life skill that is imperative to learning. We are working smarter, TOGETHER as a classroom community.
Donations to my project will provide hands-on opportunities that my students would otherwise not be able to explore.
School budgets do not allow for the types of materials I am requesting. Without that funding the money to purchase such materials falls to me. Donations would give my students, not just this year, but in future years the opportunity to do hands-on labs. My students would be given the chance to get SMARTER, TOGETHER, learning how to work collaboratively at a young age.
