iPad Minis, Many Opportunities for Underprivileged Students
My students need five iPad Minis and five cases to improve speech and language skills, practice math, do online assessments, and gain technology skills.
Technology has become an ubiquitous part of our everyday lives, but not so for many of my students. Having iPad Minis in the classroom would give my students access to opportunities they would not otherwise have.
My students come from an underprivileged rural area, often with very tough home lives.
These students do not have access to technology and often struggle with the everyday basics. I have been teaching in this community for many years now and have seen the challenges these students face. Despite their situation, these students work hard to get the best education they can. Success in the classroom is the best chance my students have at bettering themselves and improving their lives. I know that given the chance to use technology, my students will embrace it to its fullest potential.
My Project
I am requesting five iPad Minis and five cases to improve speech and language skills, practice math, do online assessments, and gain technology skills.
There are five main areas that the students will utilize their iPad Minis. First they would use if for speech and language activities such as spelling, writing, and diction. Second, they would be reading using online libraries and eBooks. The third use would be math practice that involves online games and apps that improve math fluency for everyday life. Research using online resources would be the fourth use. Finally, students will use the iPads to create original content: recording stories, writing and making videos. An additional benefit of this would be that my students would start to become technologically literate. iPad Minis would allow individual students to receive a more tailored experience to their unique strengths and weaknesses. Both struggling students and gifted students would get a better education from this technology.
This donation would allow for all of my students to reach a higher potential than they would have otherwise received.
Technology gives these students a chance to master the required material then go on to challenge themselves to learn more or work on a subject they struggle with. Technology would help give each student a more personalized experience that better prepares them for the future.
