My Students

Paper books can be heavy. Turning pages without losing your place can be especially difficult for a young student still building fine motor control. Finding new and exciting stories at your reading level helps build interest and stamina in beginning readers. Kindles meet all these needs and more.

We are a Title I public elementary school in a large urban community in Missouri.

Many of our families are English Language Learners. In the 2015-2016 school year, I have a split class of Kindergarten and first grade boys. Our classroom library has limited paper books for these grade levels.

My Project

My students are beginning readers. Imagine having words read or defined for them with Kindles when that extra support is needed during independent reading. These Kindles will be a wonderful tool to help build reading fluency! The tablets will give my students access to websites and downloadable apps that will allow them to select stories to read and help them develop and strengthen their reading comprehension, letter sounds, and phonics skills.

The possibilities with Kindle Fire HD tablets are endless and the anticipated impact immeasurable.

Our technology resources are very limited, so the addition of these new Kindle tablets to our classroom would make a world of difference to my students.
