This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Welcome to my classroom of 23 Star Students. I call them my Star Students because I am their Star Teacher. I let them know that this is no ordinary first grade classroom and I am lucky to have them! I want my students to know I believe in them.
I teach 1st grade in a community where the population of the students at my school are mostly African American.
They are smart, curious, and eager to learn. There are days when everyone has what they need. Then, there are days where there are some needs that have yet to be met. On either day, I have to be ready to do all I can to reach each and every student on their level. I know they can do well with the right amount of encouragement, love, and support.
My Project
Little kids are some of the most curious people I know, so I feel that makes them naturally a scientist in my book!
The Ladybug Land and the Butterfly Garden are perfect for my little scientists. With these animal habitats, we will grow smarter together as we learn first hand what makes these two insects the same. We will also ask, " How are they different?". We will use the iPads to record our observations of the insects' daily life. The cases will be used to help protect these iPads and an iPad we received through an earlier request. My scientists will research each insect with the books I am requesting and with the iPad.
Once we have witnessed the life cycle of each insect, we will use the data collected to answer our questions of how the two insects are the same and how they are different.
My students will be totally engaged in their learning with these materials.
I will be able to reach each student. I believe my students will become smarter with the use of the live insects and the technology. Having a real life experience is priceless. With donations made to this project, my scientists will grow smarter, together!
