Our typical day in the classroom involves a healthy dose of Science and Math. We love to read about science related topics. We need to our students to build a love of science. We struggle with student engagement and need more hands on materials to get them there.
I have the privilege of teacher 15 wonderful, curious, 5th grade students in a very high poverty school district.
The district that they attend is currently unaccredited and lack funding for science materials in general. Our students deserve a leg up, and it is not their fault that they lack the resources that other accredited districts take for granted.
My Project
Our students will be able to explore questions about what is out there in the universe and how it works. We will grow "Smarter, Together" by using the hands on materials which engage their curiosity even further. Our students will see how the solar system works, without having to imagine it from a text book.
The Motorized Planetarium, lunar globe, and planetary posters/bulletin boards will allow all of my students to be engaged in learning.
The posters and magnets will allow other students to refer to the information about the planets. The globe will help students see details about the moon that they have never seen before, and will foster a love of science that may last their whole lives. They may even decide to pursue careers later in the science field because of this.
